Amsterdam4 days 3 nights in Spring
March to May
Weather:
March to May marks spring in Amsterdam. Temperatures gradually rise from around 7°C to 18°C. March can still feel cool with occasional rain and wind, while April and May are milder and brighter. Flowers start blooming, especially tulips from late March to mid-May. Daylight increases significantly, with sunset around 6:30 PM in March and up to 9:30 PM by May. Expect a mix of sunny days, light rain, and fresh spring air.
Tourist Situation:
Spring is shoulder to high season in Amsterdam. March is relatively calm, but tourist numbers increase in April and peak in May due to tulip season, Easter holidays, and events like King’s Day (April 27). Popular attractions become busier, especially museums and Keukenhof Gardens. Prices for flights and hotels rise compared to winter but are still reasonable if booked early.
Restaurants & Cafés:
Amsterdam comes alive in spring with outdoor terraces reopening. Cafés, canal-side restaurants, and parks are popular spots to relax. Menus shift to lighter, seasonal dishes alongside classics like pancakes, poffertjes, and fresh seafood. Reservations are recommended for popular restaurants, especially on weekends and during tulip season.
Transport:
Public transport remains the easiest way to get around. Trams, buses, metro, and ferries run frequently. A GVB multi-day pass (1–7 days) is still the best option for visitors. Spring weather also makes biking very popular, especially around Vondelpark, Jordaan, and along the canals.
Booking:
Pre-book major attractions such as the Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, and canal cruises well in advance, especially from April to May. Keukenhof tickets should be booked early with a timed entry.
Walking:
Spring is ideal for walking in Amsterdam. The city is compact, flat, and very walkable, with most attractions 10–20 minutes apart. Comfortable shoes and a light jacket are recommended, as weather can change quickly. Longer daylight hours make evening strolls along the canals especially enjoyable.
